Our Mission

The Mission of the O.P.N. (Organization for Prevention of Nipah Virus), is to spread awareness about the disease, promote sustainable solutions to the problem, and aid with the funding of scientific research on the Nipah Virus.  We target our resources on communities in India and Bangladesh, that are struggling with the virus and lack the resources to help their inhabitants.

What is the Nipah Virus?

The Nipah Virus (Nipah henipavirus), is an emergent zoonotic disease  that is prevalent in Southeast Asia. The Nipah Virus can be acquired from bats and pigs, and occasionally, from human to human.

The mortality rate of the virus is between 45 and 90%. Effects include fever, cough, drowsiness, myalgia, encephalitis & other neurological symptoms

The O.P.N. has come up with several possible solutions to the Nipah Virus outbreaks. Proposals include preventing the planting of fruit trees in urban areas or near pig farms, random testing of pigs sent to markets, and the development of a vaccine against the Nipah Virus.
